This keynote presentation introduces the study of jazz in Vietnam and its significance for both Vietnam studies and the field’s scholars. Specifically, we wish to highlight how jazz in Vietnam (and the study of jazz in Vietnam) highlights an inclusive endeavor of knowledge production engaging different targeted audience during the music’s journey into the official soundscape of socialist Vietnam, which essentially planted the seeds that grew into a continuously evolving nuanced sound in its own right, Vietnamese jazz.
